Chlamydia/Gonorrhoea PCR
-
Equipment
- 1 x 70ml Yellow-top Container
Available from any Clinical Labs collection centre or your doctor.
- 1 x 70ml Yellow-top Container
-
Special requirements
- This test involves a “first pass” or “first catch” urine sample.
- You must not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to collecting your sample.
- Catch the first 20 to 30ml of your urine flow. Do not exceed the recommended volume of urine to be collected as this may reduce the sensitivity of the test. The sample must be the “first part” of the urine stream.
-
Procedure
- Wash your hands.
- Hold the container near your genital area.
- Commence urinating catching the first part of the urine (20-30ml).
- Once the 20 to 30ml is collected in the container, remove and continue to pass urine into the toilet.
- Secure the lid firmly.
- Write your surname, first given name, date of birth and the date/time of collection on the container label.
- Please deliver the completed sample to a Clinical Labs collection centre as soon as possible.
- If the delivery is delayed, refrigerate the specimen.
- The collection staff will check your details (surname, first given name, date of birth and date/time of collection on the container label) against the pathology request form to ensure the sample is matched to the doctor’s request. This is done to ensure the safety and security of reporting your results.
